Here’s why I’m excited to come to work every day

Grant Butrum once said, “I could go on and on about my work environment but at the end of the day, the most important thing that I notice is that people work hard and enjoy their job when they work for a company that genuinely cares for their employees. You can’t ask for a better environment!”

Working in a fast-paced and intense industry like events can be stressful and I expected this when I was about to start my internship with TABULA RASA PTE LTD

Surprisingly, the ‘super-stressful-trying-to-keep-up-with-tight-deadlines’ kind of atmosphere is not really that apparent. I mean yes, the heavy workload exists as do the tight deadlines but the feeling of constantly being under pressure does not. I have realised that there is something that makes me feel good about coming to work every morning and motivates me throughout the day.

It’s the people – the strong team spirit, the work environment.

Every morning I will always be greeted with a big smile and a “good morning” and “how are you doing today” kind of conversation. They will always check up on each other, offer a hand, and make sure that everyone is doing well with their work. The magic words – please, thank you, and sorry are always heard. Whenever I get my work done, they will give me a “good job” and “thank you”. It is the simple gestures that make me feel like I am matter and give my work a sense of purpose.

The first time I was in a weekly meeting with the team, I was surprised that it was not that kind of formal meeting I expected. I was surprised that we had to reflect and think about things that we are grateful for during the week and thank everyone in the team. I saw how people learned to appreciate each other, to listen to great ideas, to see things from different perspectives, and to be open to feedback. It is just so different and made me realise how this culture truly inspires me and helps me grow.

The way people work, talk and treat each other, shows a personal and deeper connection unlike a formal and distant relationship co-workers usually share – this is a true team. A team that motivates, supports, and appreciates each other. This positive vibe has just wow-ed me. The sense of unity displayed by the team shows me that the people here are not just working for themselves but rather working towards something bigger, and more importantly, as a team.

I could not be more grateful to be a part of this team and I do believe that this type of work culture and environment can ultimately do wonders for its people and the company.
